coffee Pearl's Review
Name: Pearls Oyster Bar - Fine Cajun Food and Fun
June 25, 2007
5:59 pm

We went out to eat at a favorite Oklahoma City restaurant. It has relocated and we were really excited about trying out the Pearls Oyster Bar on North Classen.

In 1982 I used to work for Harry Oyster Bar on NW Expressway. We would always go to Pearl's and have brunch on Sundays. Breakfast and bloody marys.

The new location is really nice very elegant, but I think it was way off the mark of New Orleans decor.

The old Pearl's had less atmosphere and above average menu. The new Pearl's has very nice atmosphere which makes the food seem below average. It just wasn't the OLD Pearls Oyster Bar and Find Cajun Food and Fun, that I have always know and loved.

Why does life have to change?

Also, when I worked at Harry's we had wine distributors come in and teach us the presentation and alot about the wines that we were serving. I can't say so much for the presentation that we had. "They open the wine at the bar" What kind of presentation is that? First we ordered a bottle and the waiter brought us a glass. Give me a break, 1 glass of wine for 2 people. First mistake. I do think that this was his first table in his wait career.

He brought the bottle over and poured it filling my husbands full and then mine full. I wish that all restaurants would teach their waiters the correct way to serve food and wine.

When you go out and spend your money on a nice meal at a really nice restaurant you would like to have the service that you are paying for. If I want bad service I will go to a fast food restaurant.

Then the check came. At the bottom was for my convenience a gratuity calculation.

15% is $11.27
18% is $13.53
20% is $15.03
on a $75.14 check.

WHY DO I HAVE TO TIP ON THE TAXES

Now I don't mind tipping the waitress, especially if they have done a good job. That's not what this is about.
15% is $9.82
18% is $11.79
20% is $13.10
on the $65.47 food that I ate and had the waiter/waitress server me

When your check is small the amounts are not that different, but when you restaurant check gets up to $75 and over $100, it makes alot of difference.

MORE INFO ON TIPPING

So let's all think about this and not pay more than we have to.

Our waiter must have been new. He just kind of forgot us after we were served the food. We had to ask a manager for the check, then our waiter picked it up and the manager brought us our change. As we were leaving the parking area, the manager came out with $10 that he had short changed us. I guess that was a good thing. I know that karma was good for Pearl's, because I might go back, not soon, but I might.
